WMM- memory Flashcards
What is the Working memory model?
A representation of the short term memory.
Suggests the STM is a dynamic processor of different types of information using subunits co-ordinated by the Central Executive
What are the four component of the wmm
- Central Executive
- visuo-spatial sketchpad
- phonological loop
- Episodic buffer
What is the central executive?
Capacity?
Storage?
Component of STM which coordinates activities of three subsystems in the memory.
Manages incoming data and allocates it to the different ‘slave systems’
in control of your attention
~~~
Capacity= limited
Storage= none
~~~
What is the visuo- Spatial sketchpad?
Capacity?
What are it’s two different parts?
Component of wmm that processes visual and spatial information.
Capacity= limited, approximately 3-4 objects (Baddely 2003)
Robert Logie (1995) divided into these parts:
- visual Cache: store visual data
- Inner Scribe: Records the arrangement of objects in the visual field
What is the phonological Loop?
What are it’s two divisions?
Component of wmm that processes info in terms of sound + verbal. Includes written and spoken material
Phonological store:stores words you hear
Articulatory process: allows maintainance rehearsal or words in a ‘loop’ to keep on working memory
who proposed the working memory model
Baddeley and Hitch (1974)
What is the episodic buffer
extra storage that integrates information
WMM summary part I forget
Easier to do two tasks at same time if processed by different slave systems
Difficult to do 2 tasks if processed by same slave system
