-inhibits growth of a lot of other stuff cuz has a lot of antibiotics
What do you treat N. gonorrhoea with?
3rd generation of cephalosporin: ceftriaxone (+ doxycycline for probable concurrent chlamydia infection)
Clinic Presentation of gonorrhoea?
asymptomatic
septic arthritis
complications if untreated
Pathology of N. Gonorrhoea
- pili attach to mucosal cells of the urethra and vagina
- evades mucosal IgA antibodies via IgA protease
- endocytosed by cells
- kills cilitaed cells
- cal also invade submucosa and enter bloodstream, where it can collect in synovial fluid causing septic arthritis
