Week 1 Dermatomes, Myotomes, Joints- Severson Flashcards
Define dermatome and myotome
Dermatome = unilateral area of skin innervated by the nerve fibers of a single nerve that originates from a single cord segment Myotome = spinal nerves innervating groups of muscles
dermatome of C5
shoulder
dermatome of T4
nipple
dermatome of T10
umbilicus
dermatome of L5
medial foot/ dorsum of the foot
dermatome of S1
lateral leg/foot
Spinal nerve to upper extremity abductors (deltoid, biceps)
C5
spinal nerve to forearm flexors (biceps, brachioradialis)
C5-6
Spinal nerve to triceps
C7
spinal nerve to quadriceps
L3-4
spinal nerve to achilles
S1-2
What spinal cord segments supplies motor innervation to the intrinsic muscles of the hand?
C8-T1
What spinal cord segments supplies motor innervation to the intrinsic muscles of the anal sphincter
S234
dermatome of C6
thumb (lateral/radial regions of the hand)
dermatome of C7
middle finger
dermatome of C8
little finger (ulnar/medial regions of the hand)
Synarthroses
(together joints) bones are separated by connective tissue which prevents limited movement
Syndesmosis
type of synarthroses - bones are joined by intervening fibrous tissue
ex: membrane between radius and ulna and joints between skull bones
Synchondrosis
type of synarthroses- two bones are separated from each other by cartilage which permits very limited movement
Ex: Epiphyseal plate, intervertebral disc, and symphysis
Synostosis
type of synarthroses- two bones are joined together by bone
Ex: frontal bone, epiphyseal plate
Diarthroses/ Synovial Joints have what common features?
- Synovial space: an articular cavity or discontinuity between bones
- synovial fluid
- synovial membrane
- Articular surface (smooth surfaces for articulation)
What produces synovial fluid?
serous membrane
What is a bursae?
closed scas or cavities of synovial membrane usually separating bone from overlying tendon of muscle filled with synovial fluid.
- Bursae reduce friction between structures
- communicate with synovial cavity of adjacent joint
Arthritis
Synoyitis
Bursitis
Arthritis = inflammation of join Synoyitis = inflammation of the synovial membrane of joint Bursitis = inflammation of a bursa
hinge joints
permit flexion and extension only
