Week 2 AntiFungal Drugs- Purnuske Flashcards

1
Q

Amphotericin B, Nystatin

Q

Fluctosine (5-FC)

A

selectively taken up by fungi and converted to 5 fluorouracil in fungi. Interferes with DNA/RNA synthesis

  • YEAST ONLY
  • can lead to bone marrow suppresion
  • TREAT W/ AMPHOTERICIN B

Q

Griseofulvin

A
  • binds microtubules and inhibits sliding
  • fungistatic for dermatophytes
  • Resistance= change in B-tubulin, if patient isn’t complient may develop
  • AVOID WHEN PREGO

Q

Caspofungin

A

cell wall inhibitor, blocks synthesis of glucan

  • Fungicidal for candida
  • Treats Candida albicans
