What is the voluntative optative?
A
- the use in an independent clause to express an obtainable wish or a prayer (frequently an appeal to the will, in particular when used in prayers)

What are the three nuances of the voluntative optative?
A
- mere possibility that something will take place
- stereotyped formula that has losts its optative “flavor” (μη γενοιτο)
- polite request without necessarily a hint of doubting what the response will be

- aorist: command the action as a whole (without focusing on duration, repetition, etc.)
- present: command the action as an ongoing process (portrays an internal perspective)
