Anterior surface of medial 1/2 clavicle, anterior surface of sternum, costal cartilage of rib T1-T6 and anterior layer of rectus sheath

Lateral lip of intertubercular suculus of the humerus
What nerve innervates the pec major muscle?
Lateral pectoral nerve (C5-C7)
What movements are pec major involved in?
Adducts and medically rotates the shoulder - also accessory muscle for respiration
Where does pec minor originate?
Ribs T3-T5
Where does pec minor insert?
Coracoid process of the scapula
What nerve innervates the pec minor muscle?
Medial pectoral nerve (C8-T1)
What movement is pec minor involved in?
Draws scapula forward and down, assisting in protraction of the scapula - also accessory muscle for respiration
Where does serratus anterior originate?
Superolateral surfaces of ribs T1-T8/9 on lateral wall of the thorax
Where does the serratus anterior muscle insert?
Superior angle, medial border and inferior angle of the scapula
What nerve innervates the serratus anterior muscle?
Long thoracic nerve (C5-C7)
What movement is the serratus anterior involved in?
Protracts the scapula and rotates it upwards - also accessory muscle for respiration
Where does the trapezius muscle originate?
occipital bone, ligamentum nuchae and spinous process of vertebrae T1-T12
Where does the trapezius muscle insert?
Lateral 1/3 of clavicle, acromion and spine of the scapula
What nerve innervates the trapezius muscle?

What movement is the trapezius muscle involved in?
Elevates and depresses (shrugs), and retracts shoulders and scapula and internally rotates the arm - also accessory muscle for respiration

Spinous process of T7-T12 and associated thoracolombar fascia, posterior 1/3 of iliac crest, ribs 9-12 and inferior angle of scapula
Where does latissimus dorsi insert?
Intertubercular suculus of the humerus between pectoralis major and teres major.
What nerve innervates the latissimus dorsi muscle?
Thoracodorsal nerve (C6-C8)
What movement is latissimus dorsi involved in?
Internally/medially rotates, adducts and extends shoulder and arm - also accessory muscle for respiration
Where does Levator scapulae originate?
Posterior tubercle of transverse process of vertebrae C1-C4
Where does the levator scapulae muscle insert?
Medial border of the scapula from superior angle to root of spine of the scapula
What nerve innervates the levator scapulae?
Cervical nerve (C3-C4) and dorsal scapular nerve (C5)
What movement is the levator scapulae involved in?
Lateral flexion of the neck (ear to shoulder) and assists in downward rotation of the scapula during addiction of the arm
Where does rhomboid major originate?
Spinous process of vertebrae T2-T5
Where does rhomboid major muscle insert?
Medial border of the scapula from inferior angle to the root of the spine of the scapula - inferior to rhomboid minor
What nerve innervates the rhomboid major muscle?
Dorsal scapula nerve (C4-C5)
What movement is rhomboid major involved in?
Retracts, elevates and downwardly rotates the scapula
Where does the rhomboid minor muscle originate?
Nuchal ligament and spinous processes of vertebrae C7-T1
Where does rhomboid minor insert?
Medial end of the root of the scapula

Dorsal scapula nerve (C4-C5)

Deltoid tuberosity of the humerus

Abducts, flexes and extends the shoulder joint

Inferior angle and lower part of the lateral border of scapula
Where does the teres major muscle insert?
Intertubercular suculus on the anterior surface of the humerus posterior to pectoralis major and lat dorsi.
What nerve innervates teres major?
Primarily the lower subscapular nerve (C5-C7) and middle subscapular nerve/ thoracodorsal nerve.
What movement is teres major involved in?
Medially rotates and adducts the shoulder
Where does supraspinatus originate?
Suprapinous fossa of scapula
Where does supraspinatus insert?
Greater tubercle of the humerus

Suprascapular nerve (C5-C6)
