What is the CQC England
The ‘Care Quality Commission’
Independent regulator of health and social care in England
What is the role of the CQC England
- Monitor, inspect and rate services
- Protect service users
- An independent voice, publish regional and national views of quality issues in health and social care
What are the 5 questions of the CQC inspections?
1- Is it safe? e.g. protection from harm?
2- Is it effective? e.g. are the outcomes good?
3-Is it caring? e.g. respect shown?
4-Is it responsive to people’s needs?
5-Is it well-led? e.g. Are they organized to meet the needs required?
What is NICE?
National Institute for Health and Care Excellence
Provides national guidance and advice to improve health and social care
What are the roles of NICE?
- Produced evidence-based guidance and advice for service providers
- Develop quality standards and performance measurements for organisations to do with health care
- Provide a range of information services
What does NICE provide guidance about?
- conditions and diseases
- lifestyle and wellbeing
- population groups e.g. prison population
- service delivery, organization, and staffing
- setting e.g. when patients move from one setting to another
What is OFSTED? (England)
An independent, impartial public body that reports directly to parliament
What is the role of OFSTED? (England)
- inspect childcare, adoption and fostering agencies, and initial training
- Publishes reports of its findings to help improve quality and inform policy
- Regulates early years and children’s social care services, to make sure they are suitable for children and young vulnerable people.
What is Public Health England?
A government body that helps, protects and improves Englands health and wellbeing
What is the role of Public Health England?
- To reduce health inequalities by working as part of regional and local health systems
- Protect the health of people in England
- Share information and expertise to improve the public health
- Carry out research
