when does puberty start?
When a hormone in the brain sends a signal to the pituitary gland, which stimulates the testes (for boys) or ovaries (for girls) to produce sex hormones

describe the role of hormones in sexual development for boys
the hormone testosterone is produced by the testes, this stimulates the growth of the penis, testes, pubic hair, muscles and voice deepens
describe the role of hormones in sexual development for girls
the hormone progesterone and oestrogen is produces by the ovaries which stimulates the growth of breast, reproduction system, and the menstrual cycle
define primary sexual characteristic
these are the processes which are related to sex organs which a child is born with these mature when sex hormones are released
define secondary sexual characteristics
these are characteristics that aren’t for reproduction, but develop when sex hormones are released
