There are private healthcare settings, including many hospitals and doctor’s offices, some are for-profit and others are non-profit.

The Red Cross is a non-profit that helps not only in disaster recovery but also by collecting blood donations that can help severely injured people recover.

Other ways that non-profits participate in health is by raising funds for research, advocacy, treatment, and awareness on health issues, like the American Cancer Society, the Mayo Clinic, and many other organizations.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the federal agency that tracks and investigates public health issues and trends. The CDC also supports prevention and preparedness activities in the United States.
What is the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) organztion
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) oversees and approves the distribution of medicines and medical devices. The FDA also makes sure that the US food supply is safe. For workers, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) works to prevent workplace accidents, illnesses, and deaths.
What is the World Health Organization (WHO)
The National Institute of Health is the main federal research agency in the United States. On an international level, the World Health Organization (WHO) deals with global health issues, setting standards for disease control and healthcare, researching health problems, and working to improve medical care around the world.
What is Medicare (government)
Medicare is a program that provides health insurance—insurance that pays for medical expenses due to illness or injury—to all people over age 65 or to some people with disabilities.
What is Medicaid
Medicaid provides free or low-cost medical benefits to people who are low-income, pregnant, elderly, and/or those with disabilities.
Who uses medicare and medicaid
Though some people may receive both Medicare and Medicaid benefits, the two programs operate primarily to serve different populations: Medicare is mostly for seniors and Medicaid mostly serves the poor.
