Ulnar nerve Flashcards
Abi is my favourite. (:
Which muscles does the Ulnar nerve innervate?
The muscles of the hand (except the thenar muscles and 2 lateral lumbricals)
Flexor carpi ulnaris
Flexor digitorum profundus
What is the sensory innervation of the Ulnar nerve?
Anterior and posterior of the Medial one and a half fingers and associated palm area
What spinal roots supply the Ulnar nerve?
C8 and T1
What is the route of the Ulnar nerve?
Down the Medial side of the arm
Pass the Medial epichondyle
Passes down the forearm
What are the 3 branches of the Ulnar nerve?
Muscular branch
Palmar branch
Dorsal branch
Where does the Ulnar nerve travel by the hand?
Superficial to the flexor reticaculum known as the Ulnar canal
What is Ulnar tunnel syndrome?
Entrapment of Ulnar nerve as it passes through the Ulnar tunnel
What muscles are innervated by the Ulnar nerve?
Flexor carpi ulnaris Flexor digitorum profundus Hypothenar muscles Medial 2 lumbricals Interossei Adductor pollicis
What are the 3 branches of the Ulnar nerve?
Palmar cutaneous
Dorsal cutaneous
Superficial branch
What does the Palmar cutaneous branch of the Ulnar nerve innervate?
Sensation in the medial half of the palm
What does the dorsal cutaneous branch of the Ulnar nerve innervate?
Sensation in the medial half of the dorsum of the hand.
Dorsal surface of the medial one and a half fingers
What does the superficial branch of the Ulnar nerve innervate?
Sensation to the palmar surface of the medial one and a half fingers
How is the Ulnar nerve commonly damaged at the Elbow?
Fracture of the Medial epichondyle
When there is damage to the Ulnar nerve at the elbow, what is the motor damage?
Paralysis of all the muscles innervated by the Ulnar nerve
When there is damage to the Ulnar nerve at the elbow, what is the sensory damage?
Loss of sensation in all areas supplied by the Ulnar nerve
