What are the main functions of the Pelvic Girdle?
Transfer forces from the axial skeleton to the lower limb
Provide attachment for muscles
Protect the pelvic area
What 3 bones make up the Hip bone?
Pubis
Ischium - Posterior and Inferior
Ilium - Most superior
Where is the Iliac fossa?
On the anterior medial side of the Ilium, concave surface
Where is the Gluteal surface?
The posterior side of the Ilium
Where is the Iliac crest?
Superior margins thicken, this is the Iliac crest
What does the body of the Ischium contain?
The acetabulum
Where is the Ischial Ramus?
Projects medially
Where is the Ischial tuberosity?
Large projection of bone inferor and posteriorly
How many Rami (divisions) does the Ischium have?
One
How many Rami does the Pubis have?
Two
Where do the two pubis articulate?
The pubic symphysis
What does the Superior ramus do?
Joins the Ischium and Ilium at the acetabulum
What does the Inferior ramus do?
Joins with the ramus of the Ischium, helps form the obturator foramen
What makes Pelvic fractures usually occur together?
The ring structure of the Hip bone
What is the most common way of fracturing the Pelvic bone?
Direct trauma
