Transtheoretical Model of change Flashcards
Trans-theoretical model of change
precontemplation contemplation preparation action maintenance
Pre-contemplation
I won’t or I can’t - two categories in this stage either client does not feel they have a problem even if others do or they don’t believe it’s possible to change
Contemplation
I may -at this stage clients are thinking about changing and are considering taking action in the next six months there is ambivalence about change and feeling that it will be difficult or even a impossible to achieve
Preparation
I will- Ambivalent feelings have been overcome clients have strengthened their motivation and are planning to take action in the next month.
Action stage
I am- the stage last six months or longer clients are working on building new relationships practicing new behaviors and new habits
Maintenance stage
I still am- begins with new behavior changes become a habit and it’s done automatically usually six months after the initial behavior is changed clients are confident and can maintain the new behavior
Assessments
Inform coaches they help clients gain self-awareness insights and a sense of their priorities for a coaching program allows coaches to gather data without an interrogation
Other benefits trust and rapport honoring personality preferences the written word is power providing clients and opportunity to see information data and also developed discrepancy allow clients to see the difference between where they are and where they want to be
Dangers of assessment
Can shed a light on what is wrong and the clients behavior tempting to fall into old habits of looking for what needs to be fixed and for coaches to put on the expert hat-Evaluation rather than empathy
Assessments are completed by humans so not as reliable
