Thorax - Coronary vessels (1) Flashcards
What is the blood supply to the endocardium?
The endocardium receives oxygen and nutrients by diffusion from the blood in the chambers of the heart.
What is the blood supply to the myocardium and epicardium?
The coronary arteries.
What is the coronary groove?
This is the groove in which the right coronary artery and the circumflex branch of the LCA lie.
What proportion of individuals have their SA node supplied by the RCA?
60%
What proportion of individuals have their AV node supplied by the RCA?
80%
What determines whether a person has RCA dominance or LCA dominance?
Whether it is the RCA or the LCA that gives rise to the posterior interventricular branch, which runs straight down the posterior surface of the heart towards the apex. It supplies the posterior third of the interventricular septum.
What is more common: RCA dominance or LCA dominance?
RCA dominance is present in 67% of individuals. (Robbins Pathology says 80%)
What is the blood supply to the apex of the heart?
Left Anterior Descending branch
What is an end artery?
An end artery is an artery supplying a tissue that lacks sufficient collateral supply to maintain viability of the tissue should occlusion occur.
Which vessels can be used as grafts in CABG surgery?
Great saphenous vein. Radial artery.
Where is the SA node located?
At the junction of the SVC and the RA, just deep to the epicardium.
Where is the AV node located?
At the postero-inferior region of the interatrial septum, near the opening of the coronary sinus.
Describe the aortic sinuses.
The RCA arises from the right coronary sinus (also called the anterior aortic sinus). The LCA arises from the left coronary sinus (also called the posterior aortic sinus). No artery arises from the posterior aortic (non-coronary) sinus.
