Lower Limb - Subcutaneous Tissue and Fascia (1) Flashcards
What is the Fascia Lata?
This is another name for the deep fascia of the thigh. It is continous inferiorly with the deep fascia of the leg.
What are the proximal and distal attachments of the iliotibial tract?
Proximal: iliac tubercle (of iliac crest)
Distal: anterolateral tibial tubercle
What comprises the iliotibial tract?
This is a broad band of fibers formed by the conjoint aponeurosis of two muscles: the tensor of fascia lata, and the gluteus maximus. The iliotibial tract forms the lateral part of the fascia lata (deep fascia of the leg).
Name the compartments of the thigh.
Anterior, Medial, Posterior.
What is the saphenous opening of the fascia lata?
This is a hiatus in the fascia lata inferior to the medial part of the inguinal ligament. It is closed by the cribriform fascia (Fascia cribrosa), which is a sieve-like membrane that allows passage of lymphatics and the great saphenous vein.
Name the compartments of the leg.
Anterior (dorsiflexor), Lateral (fibular), Posterior (plantarflexor).
