Lifelong insulin therapy
Cause of type two diabetes
Insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency
Onset of type two diabetes

Treatment of type two diabetes
Lifestyle changes, oral anti-diabetic drugs and possibly insulin in latest stages
Gestational diabetes
Occurs in pregnancy due to hormonal changes leading to insulin resistance
Gestational diabetes risk factors
Obesity, family history, previous gestational diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome
Complications of gestational diabetes
Large baby, pre-term birth, increased risk of type two diabetes later
Treatment of gestational diabetes
Diet, exercise, insulin if needed
Fasting blood glucose levels, diagnosis of diabetes
More than a equal to 7.0mmol/L
Random blood glucose levels, diagnosis of diabetes
More than or equal to 11.1mmol/L
Oral glucose tolerance test diagnosis of diabetes
More than equal to 11.1mmol/L two hours after 75 g of glucose
HbA1c level diagnosis of diabetes
More than or equal to 6.5%
