Needles for pen devices length and gauge

A

◼ Length:
5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 12mm, 12.7mm
◼ Guage:
29G, 30G, 31G

17
Q

Sites of administration

A

◼ Abdomen (fastest absorption),
◼ Thighs (slower absorption),
◼ Upper arms (medium to fast absorption)
◼ Buttocks (slowest absorption)
◼ Short and long acting in separate sites
*Rotate sites to avoid lipohypertrophy *

18
Q

lipohypertrophy

A

Thickening/hardening of injection area

19
Q

Injection technique

A

◼ Inject into clean skin with clean hands (do not use alcohol wipes)
◼ Inject into soft fat not muscle at 90º angle
◼ “Pinch up” if slim or injection site with little subcutaneous fat OR use shorter needle
◼ Push needle all way in & leave for 5-10 secs to avoid leakage
