Steps prior to treatment
Self detect -> referral -> diagnosis
NHS treatment targets
▪ Urgent referral 2 week wait between seeing GP and start of investigations
▪ No more than 2 months ( 62 days) wait between urgent referral and start of treatment
▪ No more than 31 days between diagnosis and start of treatment
Treatment decisions
Surgery
Radiotherapy
Systemic anti cancer therapy
Hormonal manipulation
Supportive care
Intent of treatment with SACT
Curative - aggressive
Palliative - prolong life and reduce symptoms
Subsequent line - treatment for reoccurant
Neoadjuvant
Given before surgery to decrease tumor size
Adjuvant
Given after surgery
Concomitant
With radiotherapy to mop up an cancer cells
Important considerations
Patient:
- performance status
- age
- previous treatment
- co-morbidities
- polypharmacy

Monitor response to treatment
Lump in lymph’s can be felt and measures physical examination
Some tumors can show on x-ray or CT
Can be with bloods
Targeted therapy
Monoclonal antibodies
Antibody drug conjugates

Hormone therapy
Remove the hormone that feeds the tumor to grow
