Antidiabetics 3 W3 Flashcards
Two classes of anti diabetic drugs that act ar targets involved in the absorption of glucose in the GIT and reabsorbtion in the kidneys
• Sodium glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors eg:
dapagliflozin
• α-glucosidase inhibitors eg: acarbose
Target of SGLT-2
Sodium glucose co-transporter 2
It mediated the reabsorbtion of G in the kidneys
What do inhibitors of SGLT2 do
Reduces reabsorbtion nd therefore increase excretion oof G in urine, hence plasma concentrations of G are reduced
Target of a-glycoidase inhibitors
A-glucosidase (maltase)
What is a-glucosidase
Enzyme that breaks down short chin oligosacchrides including maltose to G in the GIT
When is a-glucosidase required
Before G can be absorbed from gut into the bloodstream
Acarbose
Inhibits a-glucosidase thus reducing G absorb nd reducing post prandial G conc
