TB 38- Reciprocating Saw Flashcards
TB 38: The saw is designed to cut wood how thick?
12” thick
TB 38: The saw is designed to cut metal how thick?
3/4” thick
TB 38: The saw blade reciprocates from _ to _ SPM (strokes per mintue) depending on the pressure applied
0 to 2600 SPM
TB 38: Where is the saw located?
On all LAFD Trucks and Heavy Rescue Vehicles
TB 38: What does the ‘Tiger Saw’ Kit consist of?
- Metal Carrying Case
- 9 1/2 foot power cord modified to LAFD portable generator electric receptacles
- Pig Tail converting twist lock receptacle to a standard 3 prong plug
TB 38: The gear housing, intermediate plate, blade and pivoting guide shoe may be energized if the blade cuts into live wiring within a wall. To prevent electrical shock, one hand should hold the?
trigger switch on the handle, while the other hand firmly grasps the rubber front housing cover
TB 38: As the switch trigger is squeezed, the speed of the blade
increases
Tb 38: Lower speeds are recommended for most?
higher speeds are recommended for?
Metal Cutting Operations
Wood
TB 38:What kind of motion feature does the Model 737 have?
Dual Blade Motion
TB 38: Straight reciprocating motion
All metal cutting operations
Rotate clockwise so bar is vertical
TB 38: Orbital Motion
Fast cutting of wood
Rotate counterclockwise so bar is horizontal
TB 38: Model 737 has what kind of blade clamp?
Quick change blade clamp
Can change blade w/o using tool or hex wrench
TB 38: The reciprocating shaft must be fully ___ to permit access to the blade release collar
Extended
To open the blade clamp:
rotate and hold the blade release collar counterclockwise (as viewed from the front of the saw
Insert the blade into the clamp until it bottoms. Normally blades are inserted with the teeth facing down; however, the blade clamp will accept the blade in either position, teeth up or down. Allow the release collar to rotate…
clockwise to lock the blade in place
If a blade breaks leaving nothing to grasp, utilize another blade as a tool to
aid in removing the broken piece.
The guide shoe serves as a
rest while making a cut
The shoe can be adjusted by
loosening two hex set screws located in the bottom of the rubber front housing
The saw should not be operated with the guide shoe
removed
Best results are obtained by keeping the guide shoe firmly against
the material being cut
Tiger Saw can be used for plunge cutting wood, plywood, wallboard, and plastic materials. Do Not attempt to plunge cut
metal
The best plunge cut performance is obtained with the saw set for
orbital motion
To start the Plunge Cut:
rest the saw on the shoe bracket with the blade not touching the surface to be cut. Start the saw. Using the shoe bracket as a pivot, rotate the blade into the work while drawing the saw backward slowly. When the blade has cut through the work, continue raising the saw until it is perpendicular to the work surface
When cutting angle, H-beam, or cha nnel type metals start the cut on the surface where the
greatest number of teeth will contact the work
Try to keep at least 3 teeth in contact with the work at all times.
TB 38: Utilizing the Tiger Saw, the A, B, and C posts of a car can be cut as __ or ___ than the Hurst Tool Cutters
Fast or Faster
Tb 38: The first cut through the A post is continued across the window to
the A post on the opposite side of the car
TB 38: Which blade is best suited for cutting the window from the A post to the opposite side of the car?
960R, 9” blade with 10 teeth per inch (TPI)
TB 38: The saw is effective in tight spots, when cutting the brake or clutch pedal, what should be used to keep tension around the pedal to keep tension as the cut is made?
Ladder Strap
TB 38: When locating hidden fires in the walls or between floors, what are the advantages the tiger saw has?
Causes less damage
Cut out charred framing
Little time to clean following use
TB 38: how can the tiger saw be used for sprinkler systems?
Used to cut out a broken piece of pipe
Line can be plugged and system returned to operating condition
TB 38: ____ & _______ is critical in situations where the blade cannot be fully visualized by the operator and there is a possibility that the blade could contact a trapped victim.
Blade selection (blade length) and tool operation
Tb 38: To avoid electric shock prevent body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, stoves, etc. Make cuts in walls…
shallow to avoid contacting electrical wiring
TB 38: Maintenance of Tiger Saw
Kept clean
Blow out all air passages
Plastic parts cleaned with a soft damp cloth
Never use solvents to clean
Tb 38: Blade replacement parts?
Available at S&M, one for one exchange basis
