Important factor for modifying overhaul procedures is a desire to strike a balance between to objectives:
- Extent to which burned contents and building materials are removed from a structure
- Our need to leave the scene undisturbed (insofar as possible) to aid concerned investigators in conducting any required follow up investigations
What is the primary consideration that should guide officers in determining the scope of the overhaul plan?

Main objectives of overhaul are:
-safety of fire personnel conducting overhaul operations by limiting or
removing exposure to hazardous/toxic atmospheres/substances and identifying/flagging
structural and environmental hazards that could potentially cause injuries or death

-leave the scene undisturbed – insofar as possible – for the purpose of aiding investigators
