What is the expected finding of the sucking and rooting reflex? What is the expected age?
Done by stroking the infants cheek or edge of infants mouth–the infant turns head toward that side and starts to suck
Birth-4 months
What is the expected finding of the palmar grasp? What is the expected age?
Done by placing an object in an infants hand–the infant grasps the object
Birth-3 months
What is the expected finding of the plantar grasp? What is the expected age?
Done by touching the sole of an infants food–infants toes curl downward
Birth-8 months
What is the expected finding of the moro reflex? What is the expected age?
Done by allowing the head and trunk of an infant in a semi-sitting position to fall back to an angle of at least 30 degrees–infants arms and legs symmetrically extend, then abduct while fingers spread to form C shape
Birth-4 months
What is the expected finding of the startle reflex? What age?
Done by clapping hands or by a loud noise–infant will abduct arms at the elbows, and the hands will remain clinched
Birth-4 months
What is the expected finding of the tonic neck reflex (fencer position)? What is the expected age?
Done by turning an infants head to one side–infant extends arm and leg on that side and flexes arm and leg on opposite side
Birth-3 or 4 months
What is the expected finding of the babinski reflex? What is the expected age?
Done by stroking the outset edge of the sole of an infants foot upward to the toes–infant toes fan upward and out
Birth-1 year
What is the expected finding of the stepping reflex? What is the expected age?
Done by holding an infant upright with his feet touching a flat surface–the infant makes stepping movements
Birth-4 WEEKS
What is the labyrinth righting reflex? Appears at what age? strongest at what age?
Infant in prone or supine positon and is able to raise head
Appears at 2 months
Stronges at 10 months
What is the neck righting reflex? What is the age range?
While infant is supine, head is turned to one side shoulder, trunk, and finally pelvis will turn toward that side
Appears at 3 months until 24 to 36 months
What s the body righting reflex? What is the age?
A modification of the neck-rigting reflex in which turning hips and shoulders to one side causes all other body parts to follow
Appears at 6 months until 24-36 months
What is the otolith righting reflex? What age?
When body of an erect infant is tilted, head is returned to upright, erect position
Appears at 7-12 months
Persists indefinitely!!
What is the landau reflex? What age?
When infant is suspended in a horizontal prone position, the head is raised and legs and spine are extended
Appears at 6-8 months, lasts until 12-24 months
What is the parachute reflex? What age?
When infant is suspended in a horizontal prone position and suddenly thrust downward, hands and fingers extend forward as if to protect from falling
Appears at 7-9 months
Lasts indefinitely!!!
