D1 = D2 > beta2 > alpha, direct agent
tx for unstable bradycardia, HF, shock
inotropic & chronotropic alpha effects predominate @ high dose
Dopamine
beta > alpha, direct agent
tx for anaphylaxis, asthma, open angle glaucoma
alpha effects predominate @ high dose
stronger effect @ beta2R than Norepi
Epinephrine
beta1 = beta2, direct agent
used for evaulation of tachyarrythmias, can worsen ischemia
Isoproterenol
alpha1 > alpha2 > beta1; direct agent
used for hypotension although it lowers renal perfusion
weaker effect at beta2R than epi
Norepinephrine
alpha1 > alpha2; direct agent
used for hypotension, ocular procedures (mydriatic), rhinitis (decongestant)
Phenylephrine
indirect general agonist, repuptake inhibitor, releases stored catecholamines
used for narcolepsy, obesity, ADHD
Amphetamine
indirect general agonist, reuptake inhibitor
vasoconstricts, local anesthetic
Cocaine
never give beta blockers if suspected cocaine intox - leads to unopposed alpha1 activation - extreme HTN
indirect general agonist, releases stored catecholamines
used as nasal decongestant, for urinary incontinence, hypotension
Ephedrine
alpha2 agonist
used for HTN urgency, does not decrease renal blood flow
for ADHD, Tourette syndrome
Clonidine
alpha2 agonist
used for HTN in pregnancy
alpha-methyldopa
