Submandibular region Flashcards
What foramina is not he anterior surface of the mandible and what does it transmit?
Mental fo.
Mental nerve which is a branch of inferior alveolar nerve.
Innervates the tooth substance of the anterior mandibular teeth and lingual gingiva
Where no the mandible does the mylohyoid attach?
Mylohyoid line
What fossa lies above the mylohyoid line?
Sub-lingual fossa
What fossa lies below the mylohyoid line?
Sub-mandibular fossa
What attaches to the superior and inferior genial tubercle?
Superior = genioglossus Inferior = geniohyoid
Where is the oblique line of the mandible?
Anterior, lateral surface where ramps meets body
What is the linguala?
Notch over the mandibular fo.
Boundaries of submandibular region
Posterior wall of anterior digastric, anterior wall of posterior diagastric, inferior wall of mandible
What forms the floor of the submandibular region?
Mylohyoid, hyoglossus, middle constrictor
What is the main content of the submandibular region?
Submandibular gland
What is the anatomical structure of the submandibular gland?
Wraps around mylohyoid. Superficial arm is superficial to mylohyoid and is the biggest.
Deep arm is deep to mylohyoid and is smaller. Deep arm is superficial to hyoglossus
Where does the submandibular duct emerge?
From the deep arm, emerges from between mylohyoid, hyoglossus and genioglossus
What branch of the facial artery is in the submandibular region?
Submental artery
Which is more superficial in the submandibular region?
a) facial
b) lingual
a - very superficial
What is the lingual arteries relationship with hyoglossus?
Lingual artery passes deep to hyoglossus
