Soft palate Flashcards
What does the soft palate form the boundary between?
Nasopharynx and oropharynx
Does the soft palate have any bony framework?
No
What are the muscles surrounding the soft palate?
Palatopharyngeus Palatoglossus Levator veli palatine Tensor veli palatine Musculus uvuale Palatopharyngeal sphincter (in some people)
What are the attachments of palatopharyngeus?
From palatine aponeurosis to pharynx
What is the function of palatopharyngeus?
Closes oral cavity from oropharynx
What are the attachments of palatoglossus?
From palate to sides of tongue
What is the function of the palatoglossus?
Closes oral cavity from oropharynx
What are the attachments of levator veil palatine?
Opening of auditory tube and palate
Whats the function of levator veli palatine?
Lifts the palate
What are the attachments of tensor veli palatine?
From auditory tube to hamulus and then to aponeurosis
What are the attachments of musculus uvula?
Inside the soft palate
What is the function of msuculus uvula?
Shorten uvula and pulls soft palate up sealing the nasopharynx
What is the motor supply of the muscles of the sift palate?
All pharyngeal plexus via XI except tensor veil palitini which is V3
What provides sensory innervation to soft palate?
Lesser palatine nerve from pterygopalatine ganglion
What provides sensory innervation to hard palate?
Greater palatine nerve and nasopalatien nerve
