Larynx Flashcards
What are the unpaired cartilages of the larynx?
Thyroid, cricoid and epiglottis
Where is cricoid cartilage in respect to thyroid cartilage?
Directly inferior
Where is epiglottis in respect to thyroid cartilage?
Internal aspect of thyroid lamina
What are the pared cartilage of the larynx?
Arytenoid, corniculate and cuneiform
What are the 2 process of the arytenoid cartilage and what attaches here?
Muscular and vocal process
Muscles and vocal chords respectively
Where are the corniculate cartilages in respect to arytenoid cartilage?
On top of the apex
Where are the cuneiform cartilages found?
In the aryepligottic folds
What line is found on the lateral aspect of the thyroid cartilages?
Oblique line
What is found below the cricoid cartilage?
1st tracheal ring
What are the horns on the superior aspect of the thyroid cartilage called?
Superior cornu
What are the horns on the inferior aspect of the thyroid cartilage called?
Inferior cornu
What are the 2 extrinsic laryngeal membrane?
Cricotracheal membrane, thyrohyoid membrane
What are the attachments of thyrohyoid membrane?
Thyroid cartilage and hyoid bone
What are the attachments of the cricotracheal membrane?
Cricoid cartilage and 1st tracheal ring
What are the intrinsic laryngeal membrane?
Conus elasticus (Cricothyroid) Quadrangular membrane
What are the true and false vocal folds made from?
True - superior border of conus elasticus
False - inferior border of the quadrangular membrane
Where is the supraglottic cavity?
Above false vocal chord
What is the laryngeal ventricle?
Space between vocal folds
What is the infraglottic cavity?
Below sure vocal fold
What type of joint is the cricothyroid joint?
Synovial
What are the attachments of the Cricothyroid joint?
Inferior cornu of the thyroid cartilage and superior border of cricoid lamina
What type of movement occurs at the Cricothyroid joint?
Rotation around the inferior cornu
What is the function of the cricothryoid joint?
Shorten and lengthen the vocal folds to change pitch of voice
What type of joint is Cricoarytenoid?
Synovial
What are the articular surfaces of the Cricoarytenoid joint?
