Anterior triangle Flashcards
Boundaries
Inferior border of mandible
Anterior border of sternocleidomastoid
Midline
How is the anterior triangle further split?
Suprahyoid and infrahyoid
Name the infrahyoid muscles
Omohyoid, sternothryoid, sternohyoid, thyrohyoid
What innervates the infrahyoid muscles?
Ansa cervicalis except thyrohyoid which is innervated by C1 fibres hitchhiking along hypoglossal
Name the suprahyoid muscles
Geniohyoid, mylohyoid, (anterior and posterior) digastric, stylohyoid
Name the attachments of the suprahyoid muscles
Geniohyoid - inferior genial tubercle and body of hyoid
Mylohyoid - mylohyoid line of the mandible and body of hyoid
Digastric - anterior from digastric fossa of mandible, posterior from mastoid process
Stylohyoid - from styloid process of temporal to lateral aspect of hyoid
What innervates the suprahyoid muscles?
Geniohyoid - C1 fibres hitch-hiking along hypoglossal
Mylohyoid - nerve to mylohyoid (branch of V3)
Anterior digastric - nerve to mylohyoid
Posterior digastric - facial nerve (through stylomastoid fo.)
Stylohyoid - facial nerve
What VAN can be found in the anterior triangle?
Internal jugular vein, X, Common carotid artery - internal and external carotid artery
Describe the branching of the external carotid artery in the neck
Superior thyroid a. Lingual a. - to supply the tongue Facial a. Ascending pharyngeal a. Occipital a. Posterior auricular a. Terminal branches - superficial temporal and maxillary a
Describe the branching of the vagus nerve in the neck
Superior laryngeal - internal and external laryngeal nerve
Pharyngeal
