At an elevator emergency what is the Engine Co. Primary responsibility?
Locate car in question
- Make contact w/passengers
- Give size-up
- location of care, # of passengers & their status
Who shall the engine co. notify on an elevator emergency?
Building owner or maintance personnel to call elevator contractor and their ETA
Who shall go to the elevator machine room, and what should they bring?
Ladder officer and 1 member; bring forcible entry tool, lights or keys
note: 1 member goes to floor where elevator is stalled with 10ft ladder.
What are the 2 shut-off switches for each elevator?
main line disconnect and 110 volt to power the car (lights & fan
How far are the main disconnects usually from the machine room door?
3 feet
what caution must be taken w/ DC generators?
if it is inline when power is terminated, generator must wind down fully & stop in order for power to be fully terminated.
Who shall be notified when power is terminated?
Command
While extrication is in progress in what instance can machine room be left unattended?
under no circumstance should it be left unattended
With a machine room-less (MRL) elevator, power termination can be located where?
Utility room or access panel
note: key could be in knox box
What is the primary function of SH at an elevator emergency?
Enter the hoist way & extricate passenger
Who is responsible for sizing up elevator and what should they do?
Officer and members of SH; recommend IAP to IC
After elevator size-up what can officer of SH recommend, and under what condition?
Phase I; as long as both hoist way door and car door are closed
When can entry to hoist way or elevator car be made?
when power to elevator has been terminated
If elevator is not leveled w/ extrication floor and car opening for extrication is less than _________, what must be done?
36 inches; secure with struts or rail blocks
For an elevator technical rescue who must be notified?
SOB & Division chief
