Soc5 : Principles Of Training Flashcards
Define specificity
The particular requirmentof an activity
Define progressive overload
Gradually increasing the amount of overload so as to gain fitness without risk of injury
Define individual needs
Matching training to the requirments of an individual
Define frequency
How often someone trains over around a 7 day period
Define intensity
Intensity is how hard someone trains, usually measured in a percentage
Define time
How long a training session is to be of any benefit and to achieve improvement
Define type
Type means the most appropriate method to achieve a goal
Give a sporting example of specificity
For a cm in football cardiovascualr fitness is going to be more useful to them then speed
Give a sporting example of progressive overload
For weight training week one start at 60% then at week two increase in by 10% and so on
Give a sporting example of individual needs
A first time marathon runner isnt going to have the same training as mo farah who is very experienced
Give a sporting example for frequency
For a marathon runner they will do 2 days rest on the first week then second week will do 1 day rest and maybe add in another recovery run
Give a sporting example for intensity
Intensity for a runner would mean training at around 60% to 80% of your max heart rate
Give a sporting example for time
If you want to improve cardivascular fitness you would train for around 2 hours but for a sprinter it might be less
Give a sporting example for type
Sprinters would use interval training because they would go flat out sprint for maybe 10 seconds then recover for 2 mins . Then repeat
Define a training threshold
A safe and effective level to train at
