Soc18: Aerobic , Anaerobic Exercises And Energy Sources Flashcards
What is glucose ?
a major source of energy for most cells in the body.
What is aerobic respiration ?
the process of releasing energy from glucose, using oxygen.
What is anaerobic respiration ?
the process of releasing energy from glucose, without oxygen.
What is aerobic exercise ?
working at a moderate intensity allowing the body time to utilise oxygen for energy production and to work for a continuous period, e.g. long-distance events.
What is lactic acid ?
a colourless acid produced in muscle tissues during strenuous exercise when the body is exercising anaerobically at high intensity,
What is a cramp ?
painful, involuntary contraction of a muscle, usually caused by fatigue.
What is oxygen debt ?
The amount of oxygen needed at the end of a physical activity to break down any lactic acid .
Where does the human energy source come from ?
Fats and carbohydrates
What type of respiration does carbs and fats effect ?
Carbohydrates - anaeobic and aerobic exercise
Fats - aerobic moderate exercise
What are the different components fats have ?
- they provide most of the bodys energy
- they can be broken down into fatty acids which is absorbed into the blood
What type of food can we see fats in ?
- Butter cooking oils
- Can also be found in bacon , cheese and nuts
What are the 4 main components of carbohydrates ?
- Our cells use carbs more easier then fats
- carbs can only be stored in small amounts
- broken down into glucose and stored as glycogen
- can be turned into body fat for long term storage
What are complex carbohydrates ?
These are foods which help provide slow releasing and long lasting energy for exercise and should form half of your daily intake .
What are simple carbohydrates ?
These foods provide a quick release of energy . For example eating a bannana at half time of a football match
What is the defenition of carbohydrates ?
The bodys main source of energy
