What is an open skill
When situation is always changing
What is a closed skill
When situation is stable/predictable
What is a simple skill
When its easy and requires little concentration

When it is hard and requires focus
What is a low organisation skill
When there are clear simple phases

When theres lots of complicated phases
What is massed practice
When you practice until you can do it
What is distributed practice
When something is learned in sessions
What is fixed practice
When something is practiced in a single session

When it is practiced in different situations
What is visual guidance
When it is easy to understand, but harder to show difficult skills
What is verbal guidance
Can be hard to understand but is important for hard skills
What is manual/mechanical guidance
Gives a feel for the movement but not always practical
Different types of feedback
Intrinsic - from yourself
Extrinsic - From others
Concurrent - At the time so helps you straight away
Terminal - After the event allowing reflection
Mental preparation
- Varies according to athlete and sport
- Pre-warm up, during warm up, during event
- Mental rehearsal and rituals - helps some athletes to visualise what will happen
