Open skill
To adapt to the changing situation
closed skill
Take place in a stable, predictable environment
Basic skill
Players find easy and needs little concentration to do
Complex skill
Players need their complete attention and concentration as it is technically difficult
Low skill
Players follow clear simple phases or parts, e.g. a set shot in basketball
high skill
Its complex phases or parts, e.g. a somersault in trampolining
Massed practice
A skill that is practised until it is learned, without taking breaks
Distributed practice
When the skill is practised over several sessions, with rest breaks
Fixed practice
Where the skill is practised over and over again until it is perfected, e.g. you might use fixed precticed for free shot in basketball
Variable practice
Involves practising the skill in a variety of different situations, so that it can be adapted to suit different competitive situations
Visual guidance
This type of guidance can be given in many different ways. For example, imagine a coach wants to teach you how to do a lay-up shot in basketball.

Variable guidance
Veriable guidance can be helpful - telling someone how the skill is done, or in different ways.
Manual guidance
Manual and mechanical guidance is when the coach as they perform the skill.

Mechanical guidance
The coach can work on the trampoline with the performer. If the learning a seat drop the coach anc make sure that their legs hit the bed at the same time as their bottom
