Heart Flashcards
Vena cava
Role: carries blood to some areas of the body(head, neck and chest)
Location: runs along the right side of the vertebral column, it enters the right auricle at the lower right, back side of the heart
Right atrium
Role: it receives deoxygenated blood from the body through the bena cava and pumps it into the right ventricle which then will be oxygenated
Location: upper right corner of the heart superior to the right ventricle
Tricuspid valve
Role: prevent regurgitation of blood from the right ventricle back into
the right atrium. It opens during ventriclar diastole, allowing blood to flow from the right atrium into the right ventricle
Location: it is located slightly closer to the apex than the mitral valve
Right ventricle
Role: the right ventracle receives doxygenated from the right atrium and pumps it into the pulmonary circulation
Location: It’s located in the lower right portion of the heart below the right atrium and opposite the left ventricle
