What is a lever?
In your body, the term ‘lever’ refers to a system of muscles and bones working together to bring about movement.
What images represents each lever?
- Fulcrum - triangle
- Load - square
- Effort - arrow
- Lever arm - line
What is a fulcrum?
A fulcrum is the point around which the lever rotates (joints).
What is a load?
A load is the force that is applied by the user of the lever system (resistance/object).
What is an effort?
An effort is a force that is applied by the user of the lever system (muscles).
What is a lever arm!
A lever arm is a rigid bar such as a bone.
What are the three types of levers?
- first class
- second class
- third class
How do u know which type of lever it is?
Fist class lever - fulcrum is in the middle
Second class lever - load is in the middle
Third class lever - effort is in the middle
What are two examples of first class levers?
- tricep dip
- nodding your head
What are two examples of second class levers?
- calf raises
- using a wheelbarrow
What are two examples of third class levers?
- bicep curl
- using a spade

First class

What is a mechanical advantage?
A mechanical advantage is where the output of the lever is greater than the input.
What lever is at a mechanical disadvantage?
Third class
What is a mechanical disadvantage?
A mechanical disadvantage is when the input of the lever is greater than the output.
