Q

What are tendons?

A

Tendons are non-elastic fibres that attach muscles to bone and help to move them. They also grow in strength the more you use them.

Q

What are ligaments?

A

Ligaments are elastic fibres that joins bone to bone, usually to hold things together and keep them stable. They keep your skeleton supported whilst allowing movement.

Q

What is a hinge joint?

A

It allows only backwards and forwards motion e.g. it is in the knee so that the leg can be bended or straightened, elbow as well.

Q

What is the ball-and-socket joint?

A

Is a long bone (ball) fitted into a cup-shaped hole (the socket). However it does not have as much muscle to protect it.

Q

What are long bones?

A

Long bones are longer than they are wide. They dont have to be big small bones like finger bones (phalanges) count as long bones. A long bone has a shaft and two ends
