Soc 5- principles Of Training Flashcards
Definition of specificity
The particular requirments of an activity
Definition of progressive overload
Gradually increasing the amount of overload so as to gain fitness without the risk of injury
Definition of individual needs
Matching training to the requirements of an individual
Definition of frequency
How often someone trains over a 7 day period
Definition of intensity
How hard someone trains, usally measured in percentage
Definition of time
How long each training session must last in order to be of any benefit and achieve improvment
Definition of type
Most appropriate method to archieve particular goals
Example of specificity
Rugby fowards need to train for strength but backs need to be fast and agile
Example of progressive overload
If bench PR 100Kg, you do 60% of that for 10reps and gradually increasing the weight.
Example of individual needs
Athlete that has low level fitness, you wouldn’t give them a high level athlete programme to them to start
Example of frequency
Runner would have 1 rest day, 1 recovery run and lots of continuous running
Example of intensity
A runner would be raising your heart rate in the target zone
Example of time
Marathon runner likely to spend over 2 hours of running in one session to improve cardiovascular fitness
Example of type
Sprinters training specifically to improve their speed would use interval training
definition of Training threshold
A safe and effective level to train at
