Q

What are long bones and sporting example?

A

Longer than wide. A long bone has a shaft and two ends.
Humerus, radius, ulna, metacarpels, phalanes, femur, tibia, fibula
Vital to generate movement, strength and speed.

Q

What is a pivot joint

A

Pivot- allow bones to rotate. Rotates inside another bone or ligament. In your neck/first 2 vertabrae, C1 and C2

Q

What is a ball and socket joint?

A

Ball and socket- a ball goes into a socket, in your humerous into scapula or femur into pelvis. Allows lots of range of motion.

16
Q

What is a condyloid joint?

A

Condyloid- Similar to ball in socket, ball rests against end of bone, allows circular motion. In your wrist and ankle

17
Q

What are the 4 types of joints?

A

Pivot
Hinge
Ball and socket
Condyloid

18
Q

What is flexion?

A

Bending movement that decreases the angle between body parts, shoulder, hip, elbow. Bicep curl

19
Q

What is extension?

A

Straightening movement that increases the angle between body parts, shoulder, hip. Swinging arm

20
Q

What is dorsiflexion?

A

Bending or flexing the toes up, closer to the shin, ankle. Position feet at starting blocks.

21
Q

What is plantar flexion?

A

Extending or pointing the toes down, away from the shin, ankle. Gymnast points toes.

22
Q

What is adduction?

A

Movement that pulls towards the midline of the body, shoulder, hip. A golfer swings towards the ball

23
Q

What is abduction?

A

Movement that pulls away from midline of the body, shoulder, hip. Gymnast moves arms out sideways

24
Q

What is rotation?

A

Movement around a single axis or pivot point, shoulder, hip. A tennis player serves

25
Q

What is circumduction?

A

Moving in a circular or comical shape, shoulder, hip. A cricketer bowls a ball.

26
Q

What is a flat bone?

A

Protect organs or offer a good surface for muscles to attach to. Provide movement

27
Q

What is an irregular bone?

A

Have add shapes and vary in function, vertabrae. Offer protection when playing sport, tend to form specific functions.

28
Q

What is a tendon?

A

Non-elastic fibres that attach muscles to bine and help to move them. Allow to apply power and movement. Grow in strength.

29
Q

What is a ligament?

A

Elastic fibres that joins bone to bone, usally holds things together and keeps them stable. Keep skelton supported whist allowing movement.

30
Q

What are the bones in your head?

A

Cranium
