What is the location and function of the gluteals?
It is in the middle of the body at the back, forming at the bottom.
They adduct and extend the leg at the hips, pull the leg backwards.
What is the location and function of the hamstrings?
At the top of each leg at the back.
Flex the legs at the knees.
What is the location and function of the gastrocnemius?
At the bottom of each leg at the back.
Point the toes at the ankle.
What is the location and function of the lattisimus dorsi?
At the back of the body, either side of the chest.
Pull your arms down at the shoulders and behind the back.
What is the location and function of the triceps?
At the top each arm at the back.
Extend the arm at the elbow.
What is the location and function of the deltoids?
In upper part of the body, covering shoulders.
Raise arms in all directions at the shoulders.
What is the location and function of the biceps?
At the top of each arm at the front.
Flex arm at the elbows.
What is the location and function of the quadriceps?
At the top of each leg at the front.
Extend the leg at the knee.
What is the location and function of the pectoralis major?
In the upper part of the chest at the front.
Adduct the arm at the shoulder.
What is the location and function of the external obliques?
To the side of the abdomen.
Pull the chest downwards, flex and rotate the spinal column.
What is the location and function of the tibialis interior?
Runs down the shin.
Pull the toes up towards the shin.
What is the location and function of the hip flexor?
Sit deep in front of the hip and connect the leg.
Flex the hip, help the leg and knee up towards the body.
What are antagonistic pairs?
Muscles that work together to create a movement.
What are the 2 types of muscle fibres?
Slow twitch (type I)
Fast twitch (type II) - IIa and IIx
What is type I muscle fibre?
- Suit endurance activities and can work for long periods of time.
- Darker because they contain Myoglobin, red pigment that transports oxygen to working muscles.
