- hear, and write down what you hear
- melodic and harmonic dictation
- melodic dictation questions will include
- notate the correct pitch and rhythms that you hear. make sure that the accidentals you hear are appropriate for the key signature
- – fill every measure with notes, NO RESTS
- – one will be in simple meter, one will be in compound meter
- – one will be in major, one in minor
- – one will be in treble clef, one will be in bass clef
- – chances are the last note will be tonic…
- – three times to listen
- – get the rhythm at one time, and then pitches the next, then check for accuracy the third
- – it is not going to be piano all the time, be prepared for the sounds provided
- harmonic dictation questions
- you will hear a harmonic progression in four parts
- – notate only the soprano and bass voices
- – write in the roman numerals that indicate the chords and their inversions
- – make sure to align your notes with the blanks provided
- make sure to: fill in every chord and necessary voice, no blanks
