Q
incomplete neighbor tones
A
- note that we can add chromatic embellishments of the diatonic pitch as a neighbor or passing tone
- an incomplete neighbor tones (IN) are a skip or lead to a dissonant tone. that when resolved is in step wise motion opposite to the direction of the skip or leap. can be reversed
- if the dissonance is a skip or leap and is resolved by step it is called an Appoggiatura
- if the dissonance is in step wise motion and is resolved by a skip or leap it is called an escape tone

- when analyzing a double neighbor you circle both notes
- the structure of a double neighbor your circle both notes
- usually two note one a step up the other a step down (that are not in the chord) which center around one note in the chord on the beat
- sometimes you can have more than one note in a DN but it’s only when the notes still lead to one fixed note in the chord
