A part a person plays within a group or a situation this requires the person to carry out specific behaviours to accompany the role
What is a status?
A position in society which is either achieved or ascribed.
What does achieved status mean?
Status you worked for.
What does ascribed status mean?
Status you are born with
What are customs?
Traditional forms of behaviour associated with particular social occasions.
What is social mobility?
A shift in an individual’s social status.
What is culture?
Refers to patterns of beliefs, values, attitudes, expectations, ways of thinking within a society. It is transmitted from one generation to the next by socialisation.

Spectacular subcultures, high culture, popular culture, global culture, consumer culture, cultural diversity and multiculturalism
Define spectacular subcultures
A social group that shares the same norms and values of mainstream society but they may also have some norms and values that are distinct from the rest of society.
