rheumatology- CORTEX Flashcards
arthropy definition
disease of joint
arthritis definition
inflammation of the joint
arthralgia definition
describes pain in joint
what are the two main categories of arthritis?
non inflammatory
inflammatory
what is the most common type of non inflammatory arthritis?
osteoarthritis
what can inflammatory arthritis be divided into?
seropositive arthritis
seronegative arthritis
give examples of common seronegative arthritis?
- ankylosing spondilitis
- psoriatic arthritis
- reactive arthritis
- enteropathic arthritis
give examples of seropositive arthritis
- RA
- lupus
- scleroderma
- vasculitis
- Sjogren’s
what does seropositive mean?
auto antibodies present in serum
what is anti-CCP antibody associated with?
RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS!!!!!!
anti-CCP (anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide)
CCP= can cause polyarthritis (RA)
what is ANA (anti nuclear antibody) associated with?
- SLE
- Sjogrens syndrome
- Systemic sclerosis
- MCTD (mixed connective tissue disorder)
- Auto immune liver disease
what is Anti- double stranded DNA antibody (anti dsDNA) associated with?
SLE
what is anti-SM associated with?
SLE
what is anti-Ro associated with?
SLE
Sjorens syndrome
SLE= affects middle aged women= aunty Ro :(
Sjorens= 9x more likely to be developed by women than men= aunty Ro again :(
what is Anti-La associated with?
Sjoren’s syndrome
Anti-La= anti sALiva= sjorens syndrome affects parts of body that produce fluid eg saliva, tears
what is anti- centromere antibody associated with?
limited systemic sclerosis
what is anti-scl-70 antibody associated with?
diffuse systemic sclerosis
what is anti-RNP antibody associated with?
- SLE
- MCTD
whst is anti-Jo associated with?
Myositis
what is anti-cardiolipin antibody and lupus anti-coagulant associated with?
anti-phospholipid syndrome
what is anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) associated with?
small vessel vasculitis
GPA, EGPA, MPA
what is the most common form of arthritis?
osteoarthritis
what is typically seen on an Xray in osteoarthritis?
LOSS Loss of joint space Osteophytes (bony lumps that grow on the bone) Sclerosis (hardening) Subchondral cysts
what causes osteoarthritis?
-an imbalance between the cartilage being worn down and the chondrocyte repairing it
what increases the risk of getting OA?
- increase in age
- obesity
- trauma
- being female
- family history
how does OA present?
-joint pain and stiffness which is worsened by activity
what joints are commonly affected by OA?
synovial joints
most commonly:
- hips
- SI joints
- knees
- DIPS
- MCP
- wrist
- cervical spine
what are some signs of OA?
- heberdens nodes in DIPs
- bouchards nodes in PIPs
- weak grip
- reduced range of motion
- squaring at the base of the thumb at the carpo metacarpal joint
how is OA diagnosed?
Most of the time its a clinical diagnosis
Can do Xray (LOSS)
what are some signs of osteoarthritis in the knee?
- crepitations
- osteophytes
- effusion
- stiffness
- deformity
- bakers cyst in popliteal fossa
where would pain be felt if there was OA in the hip?
-pain in groin and/or knee
