what is intrinsic motivation and what facilitates it>
the willingness to engage in an behavior or activity based on your own accord and wanting,, it is facilitated by the needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness
what is extrinsic motivation and its continuum?
engaging in a behavior or activity because of external factors,,
continuum:
-external regulation: doing something because of consequences or reward
-introjected regulation
doing something to avoid guilt or boost self esteem
-indentified regulation
oing something becuause you see the value and importance of it
-integrated regulation:
you do something because it aligns with your values and who you are as a person
what is the need for autonomy?
the need for self direction and personal endorsement of your actions
what are ways we promote autonomy?
promote valuing
use informational rather than controlling language
promote internal motivational systems
acknowledge and accept negative affect
what is relatedness?
the need to build and maintain close relationships and bonds
what are ways we promote relatedness?
perception of a social bond
communal relationships
positive social interaction

the need to feel effective in interactions with your environment

what is the need for achievement?
the need to be succesful or achieve against a standard of excellencewh
How would a person be motivated with a high need to achieve success but also a high need to avoid failure?
they would be very conflicted, probably procrastinate, but ultimately get the work done
how would a person be motivated with a high need to achieve success but a low need to avoid failure?
they would engage in the task very early, and approach the activity with eagerness and excitement, they see it as an opportunity to achieve success
how would a person be motivated with a low need to achieve success and a low need to avoid failure
they would feel very apathetic, they probably would not end up engaging in the activity at all, or if they do itll be half baked work
how would a person be motivated with a low need to achieve success but a high need to avoid failure
they would be very avoidant of the activity, all they are concerned about is avoiding failure, they probably wont engage and if they do they will procrastinate heavilty

-prove competence
-outperform others
-display high ability
-succeed with little apparent effort
