respiratory system Flashcards

1
Q

what is the pathway of oxygen?

A

air enters the body through the nose or mouth and into the nasal passages
air then passes through the pharynx and over the epiglottis and larynx
air goes into the trachea and divides into either of the bronchi
these then divide again into bronchioles still carrying air down into the alveoli
this then diffuses into the capillaries for respiration

Q

how are alveoli specialised?

A

they have thin walls for shorter diffusion distance
they have a large surface area to increase rate of diffusion

Q

what is haemoglobin and how is oxihaemoglobin different?

A
