Movement at the joint Flashcards
What are the 2 types of synovial joints?
hinge and ball and socket
what are the 6 types of movement?
flexion
extension
circumduction
rotation
abduction
adduction
what types of movement occur at a hinge joint?
flexion and extension
what types of movement occur at a ball and sockket joint?
all 6 of them
rotation, circumduction, flexion, extension, adduction, abduction
what is flexion?
movement where the angle of the joint decreases
what is extension?
movement where the angle of the joint increases
what is abduction?
movement away from the centre line of the body
what is adduction?
movement towards the centre line of the body
what is rotation?
where the joint moves in a circular motion but not the whole way.The joint moves around its own axis but not the whole way.
what is circumduction?
this is a combination of all the other types of movement and normally moves in a complete circular motion.
