principles of training Flashcards
what are the 5 principles of training?
Specifity
Progression
Overload
Reversibility
Variance
what is specifity and give an example?
specifity is training that is relevant to the needs of the athlete
focuses on skill component , fitness and muscle groups
what is progression and give an example?
progression is when training becomes gradually more difficult
e.g. gradually increasing the weight of what your lifting at the gym
what is overload and give an example ?
this involves working the body harder than normal
e.g. at the gym you decide to go more often for a longer time and you work at a higher intensity for a week
what is reversibility and give an example?
when training stops and the athletes performance drops
e.g. a netball shooter stops practising over the summer holidays and when they come back they keep missing their shots
what is variance and give an example?
variance is the idea that if training is repetitive the athlete can become bored and lose motivation meaning they are unlikely to improve.
a striker in football dosent just take shots from the same point instead they do multiple different drills and excercises such as taking shots from a variety of places, practising passing ,shooting under pressure and defending
how do you overload training?
by increasing FITT
Frequency
Intensity
Time
Type
