Q

what happens to the ribs during inspiration and expiration?

Q

what does the diaphragm do during inspiration and expiration?

A

during INSPIRATION it flattens (goes down) and contracts

during EXPIRATION it relaxes and forms a dome like shape (goes up)

Q

what happens to the volume of the thoracic cavity during inspiration and expiration?

A

during INSPIRATION the volume will increase so theres more room for air

during EXPIRATION the volume will decrease as its pushing air out

Q

what happens to air pressure during inspiration or expiration annd why?

A

during INSPIRATION the air pressure increases as the volume of the thoracic cavity increases so the air isnt as compact.
also since gases move from high to low concentration air rushes into the lungs as its at lower concentration

during EXPIRATION air pressure decreases as the area of the lungs decreases.
this means the air pressure is more than that outside the body so air rushes out to help equalize the pressure
