What is a population?
The group of people who are the focus of
the researcher’s interest are called the
population (or target population).
What is a sample?
group of people taken
from the target population to take
part in the research. It is assumed
that the sample is representative of
the target population.
Stratified Sample
dvanced way of sampling where the make-up of
the sample reflects the proportions of certain subgroups in the target population. E.g. is 70% of the
target population are female then 70% of the sample
will be female as well.
Define a overt observation (2 marks)
Participants are aware their behaviour (CONTEXT)
is being observed, so will be aware of the purpose
of the research. (1st MARK)
Observer is clearly visible to participant (2nd
MARK)
