REM PROS occlusion for p dentures Flashcards
what is occlusion?
the static relationship between the incising or masticating surfaces of the maxillary or mandibular teeth or tooth analogues
what is intercuspal position (ICP)?
the complete intercuspation of the opposing teeth independent of condylar position, sometimes referred to as the best fit of the teeth regardless of the condylar position
what is retruded contact position?
guided occlusal relationship occurring at the most retruded position of the condyles in the joint cavities
what are index teeth?
contacting facets of teeth in ICP
when would you use ICP for occlusion?
sufficient index teeth
stable occlusion
when would you use RCP for recording occlusion?
insufficient index teeth
unstable occlusion
what is ICP dependent of?
tooth relationships
when can casts be articulated together without recording occlusion?
sufficient teeth present
if there is sufficient teeth and index teeth, you may not want to record occlusion but what can you do for a more accurate articulation?
interocclusal record
what can you use to record interocclusal relationship?
bite reg paste (silicone)
wax wafer (modelling wax)
modified wax wafer (alminax)
why may you use alminax for an interocclusal record?
contains aluminium so is more stable
technicians prefer when articulating
how is alminax (modified wax wafer) used?
trimmed
warmed
bite
what is needed when recording occlusion when there insufficient teeth?
record blocks
what are record blocks made of?
wax
added wax strengthener
added co/cr base
added shellac base
how can you modify record blocks?
hot plate
bunsen burner
wax knife
