the state of keeping or being kept secret or private
what is the duty of confidentiality?
when someone shares personal information in confidence it must not be disclosed without some form of legal authority or justification

information that, if disclosed, could reasonably be expected to place them at risk of criminal or civil liability, or be damaging to financial standing, employability, or reputation

when can you breach confidentiality?
with the pts consent
when may you breach confidentiality without the pts consent?
where a pt puts their health and safety at serious risk, or if you think that you have confidential information which would help prevent or detect a serious crime

child protection/ vulnerable adult
if you have to release information what steps do you follow?
patient consent if possible - in writing ideally
release the minimum information necessary for the purpose
be prepared to justify your decision/ actions
