FP occlusion Flashcards
why may you want to replace teeth?
stabilise occlusion
speech
improved mastication
aesthetics
what teeth are required to be ‘functionally adequate’?
5-5 upper and lower
disadvantages of fixed-fixed conventional bridge?
invasive
time consuming
expensive
what system can be used for distal abutment teeth?
RPI
- mesial rest
- distal guiding plate
- midbuccal I bar
for a partial denture, when can you record occlusion at the same time as first imps?
when ICP is obvious
what is group function?
multiple tooth contacts on working side during lateral excursion but no contact on non working side
what is canine guided occlusion?
during lateral excursion there is disclusion of all teeth on the working side except from the canine and no contacts on the non working side
what is ICP/ centric occlusion?
max interdigitation
what is RCP?
position of the mandible where initial tooth contact occurs on the retruded arc of closure - the condyles are fully seated in the glenoid fossa
what is FWS?
the difference between rest and ICP
what are the usual functioning cusps?
palatal upper
buccal lower
what is OVD?
relationship between mandible and maxilla in ICP
what is occlusal analysis/ diagnostic mounting?
mounting study models on a semi-adjustable articulator to examine features
when may you want to create a new occlusion for a pt?
extensive crown and bridgework
a new occlusion established which is free of interferences, and with the pt occluding in RCP
what articulator is used for crown and bridgework
Denar semi adjustable
what must you do if using a denar semi adjustable articulator?
take a facebow recording
